Took Naomi through the process of pencils to full color during our studio session today and figured and I'd use this new Hawkeye sketch to do the trick. Really enjoy drawing this character!

That Hawk Guy

Between a whole heap of work today I still took the time out to color up my sketch of That Hawk Guy from last nite’s pencils n pancakes session.
The original sketch is for sale on my storefront:

Tools of the trade: Part 1

Tools of the trade : part one. I’d promised a few people that I’d share some insight into the tools i use when drawing. I’ll usually use a Staedtler Mars Micro technical pencil with 0.7mm blue lead for roughing out and getting the pencil stage down. The blue is then easy to remove once scanned into the computer and also has the added advantage of not being as messy as traditional grey lead when youre drawing. For traditional inking i’ve recently discovered the Pentel Fudo Touch brush pens. These really took me by surprise as to how good they are. The amount of variation you can get in line weight is amazing as the tip is deceptively flexible whilst at the same time offering you a great amount of control and keeping its fine point for the tighter details. Really am in love with these pens at the moment.

A dude and his two dogs

I've just recently started a little side project about myself and my two dogs. Its obviously indicative of the fact I am going completely crazy, but hey maybe its therapeutic, or it may just be amusing to watch me go further crazy.

Here's a little selfie illustration with the discription of myself and my two doggie buddies

You can check out the dedicated facebook page at:

Ori:

"Oh hai!"

Ori likes long walks in the park... actually he just likes walks pretty much anywhere... and said walks are much better if they're done at a faster pace...in fact a flat out run might be preferrable. He's a lover, not a fighter (actually not even close to a fighter).
Ori is definitely a ladies man. The girls's love him. He'd be willing to give Craig some pointers but some things are just a lost cause.
For Ori, life is just amazing, everything is amazing... like totally amazing! His only weakness is in fact a massive tendency to have his ears turned inside out. No one knows how this happens... it just does.

Leela:

"nyaaah...what are you looking at?"

Leela is burdened with an overabundance of intellect. An intellect she cannot help but use solely for the purpose of evil.

Cute, cuddly and extremely moochy, do not ever reprimand the leela for it will pay you back in spades. Not known for here chewing of objects she is willing to make an exception if you pull her up for bad behaviour. So you valauable that tv cabinet? Here let me chew it? Oh so you like the easle? Lets say I just chew through one of the legs?

Then there is her view on the world. It appears that every surface must be licked. What good is a piece of furniture if it hasn't been dampened by the slobber of the divine Leela. Only one substance can stop her. It can divert all her slobbery attentions onto it instead... this substance is denim.

Craig:

"Sorry, can you explain that to me again?"

Devoid of personality and certainly not suffering from an over abundance of intellect, the token human of the group is useful for transportation, food preparation and the payment of bills.

It seems he also has developed a skill for scribbling on paper which earns him money and therefore makes him useful with the above mentioned three roles.

A recently divorced artist, Craig appears to be going a little crazy as he spends too much time with his dogs. He has recently started giving them voices and drawing up little humorous illustrations of his and the dogs exploits.

He has only been included in these stories as he is needed to draw them and we dont want to upset him too much... he's a delicate little flower it seems.

Charlie Brown Deadpool

Yikes! suffice to say this is a lot more attention for one of my little sketches than I'm used to! Thanks to the Deadpool page for sharing!

The Punisher

Even the Punisher had to be a kid at some point, right?

Stitch and Invader Zim

Possibly two of my all time favourite characters...Definitely needed to draw them in the one pic. Hey c'mon guys, no finger pointing here...we're all friends...what alien? :)

Moon Knight via Dream Works?

I realise with a Moon Kinght gag I’m probably pitching to a small target audience but damned if he isnt one of my favourite characters and I thought this was an amusing idea.

Going forward at conventions now I will have a limited edition exclusive print that is only available at a specific convention. Kicking things off with this print which will only be available at Supanova Expo in Melbourne (April 15-17 at the Melbourne Showgrounds). XCT variant cover

Today has been a bit of a mixed day for news but one great positive was to receive this great lil package in the mail with my variant cover to XCT issue 3. A big thanks to Shaun gor asking me to do the variant on this. Was a lot of fun to do and Shaun is a very easy dude to work for. If you haven't read this series yet do yourself a favor as it's a great read!
