Ledger Awards - Long List nominees - Australian Comic Books 2013

Just in case you were in any doubt as to the quantity and quality of comics that are produced by the Australian Industry, The Ledger Awards has their long list of nominees of books produced and published in 2013. There's some amazing books in that list and I'm been pretty chuffed to have been part of it with my first issue of From Above. Check out the list of books, there's some staggering good reads in there!

The guy is an amazing talent and has generously illustrated up a pin up of Kira that will be featured in Issue 2. You rock B-rad!

Review: The Comics Journal

REVIEW: A few months ago, I was lucky enough to meet the creator of Killeroo, Darren Close. This is a book that had held a place in my memory as being one of the real stand outs in my baptism to reading Australian comics. Mere months later and I am now blown away to have my humble book reviewed by Darren. To get my book reviewed by someone I hold in such high esteem is a real treat! Check out his review at http://australiancomicsjournal.com/?p=2106

Melbourne Comic Creators November meet

At the recent Melbourne Comic Creators meet, the guys from Squishface studio were passing around a few blank coasters to draw on for their exhibition tomorrow. Had a bit of fun with this, drawing on 3 coasters. Must say they are a heck of a lot easier to draw on than napkins

A massive thankyou to everyone who has supported the book. The support and sales have been amazing. For people who are looking for the book there are still a few states that we don't have the book in so far, so if you're looking for the book and your local doesn't stock it let them know you're after it. Launch Day Success!

What an amazing launch day. I would have to say that the event totally blew away my expectations!
Firstly, I have to make an enormous thankyou to All Star Comics Melbourne for hosting the event. Not only did they extremely generously let us have the launch there, but Troy and the crew there were awesome in their support and organisation. Thankyou guys because you made the event an amazing one.
Secondly, I'd like to thank my fellow comic creators and their partners who shared the launch day with me, launching two stellar books that made the event a real draw card with three books to check out.
Thirdly, a massive thankyou to all the good folks who came along to the launch, to buy the books, chat comics and support the local industry. It was such a great experience to chat to people about the book, their own projects and just comics in general. Couldn't think of anything better really.
Thankyou as well to the guys at Whatcha Podcast who are some really nice dudes, have a great show and are even misguided enough to think sticking a microphone up to me and asking a few questions is a good idea. Hope I didn't bore you silly, Mike :)

Lastly but most certainly not least, I'd like to thank my wife, Alana, who is both my muse and my rock. Who is willing to support me in all my crazy endeavours and makes me believe I can achieve anything.
Thankyou all. Today was a blast (and we sold heaps of books!!!!)

Friday, October 4, 2013

It's official launch day, peeps! Head on down to All Star Comics in Melbourne (410 Lonsdale Street, Level 1) and pick yourself up a copy of the book. We are doing a launch with 2 other books so there's plenty to see with the creators on hands to answer you questions.
