Cosplay?

Perhaps my cosplaying future if I was to don the garb of Gabe? :)

2015 events calendar

Currently in the process of planning our 2015 event calendar. Should be an interesting one as a lot of the Australian cons are overlapping. Also looking into international options as well. Watch this space :)

12 months in, and I wouldn't have traded this for anything in the world!

12 months ago I embarked on the idea of self publishing my own ongoing indie title. 12 months later and 6 conventions around Australia, I am publishing the 5th issue in the series as well as a limited sketchbook edition. This is such a great medium to be involved in and I heartily recommend to anyone who is contemplating doing this to seize the moment and get started. You won't regret it. Five print issues, with 2 already on comiXology, I can't wait for what the next 12 months has in store!

Melbourne Armageddon Expo 2014

This weekend recently saw the festivities at Melbourne Armageddon Expo. We had a thoroughly enjoyable time, tabling at the Melbourne Comics booth, and also getting to participate in a panel on the Australian comics scene. Topped of the weekend with a few drinks with some very lovely fellow creators.

Comics Panel: Artboy Gallery

Was pretty chuffed to be invited to be part of a panel on discussing comic creation at Artboy Gallery yesterday. Got to sit up there with Paul Bedford (The List), Neville Howard (Gaining Velocity) and Mitchell Davies (Eisner award winning store - All Star Comics). Was a really fantastic panel to be part of and some really balanced and diverse viewpoints were shared with the crowd.
Dean Acuri did an amazing job of MC'ing the event, and a big thank you to Marc and Matt from Artboy for putting on the panel as part of their Poptober event.

Ad on the back of Gaining Velocity

Was very fortunate to be given a full page ad space on the back cover of the latest issue of Gaining Velocity! A big thank you to Nev Howard for the honour! cheers mate!

Marker sketch

Another late night marker sketch with a bit of Photoshop touch up. Just a reminder as well to folks that I'll be part of a comics panel at Artboy Gallery today at 3pm. C'mon down if you can. If not to watch my bumbling antics but listen to the eloquence of Paul Bedford and Neville Howard, and gaze upon the Ryan Gosling like beauty of Mitchell Davies.

From Above now has a Forums page.

As part of our initiative to try and help with a bit of exposure for the indie comics scene, we are trialing the idea of a Forum tab on the From Above facebook page.
As well as prompting discussing about the book we also hope to encourage other indie creators to plug their own books on the page.
You can check out the forum  at the Facebook page

Color or grayscale for the trade paperback?

We'd like to get your thoughts. We are in the process of starting development of the first trade paperback (still quite a way off as we are also working on Issue 6). Looking into two options for the trade: one is to keep the art grayscale like the floppy issues, and the other is to do the book in color (like the sample pages shown in the attached image). Let us know which option you'd prefer to see. cheers!

Color Reprint Imminent

Doing a bit of a test on a page for if we were to release a color version of the book down the track. Does a color edition somewhere in the future interest you? (comment on the facebook link)
